Sid started out as a joke post over Jasper’s favorite sex position. 

But in canon, Jasper got Sid as a stress reliever.  More specifically she got Sid to stave off the less appealing parts of her personality (particularly her thirst for power). 

Giving Jasper a pet dog was the most spur-of-the-moment thing I’ve done so far.
