That’s exactly where I drew inspiration from for that element of the origin story.  I thought it was an incredibly powerful moment in Batman Beyond when Wayne pointed a gun at a criminal during the pilot.  He takes his code of honor incredibly seriously, and will hold himself accountable for failing to adhere to it.  Of course, he would punish himself even more severely if he ended up killing someone, even if it was a mistake.
