Yes, if Rin added too much of Kyo and no Claire, he would be refined, but caught up in looking at himself in the mirror. Instead of being content with sometimes being alone, Lucian would start to take up Kyo’s negative traits, like his parasitic neediness.
The reason why Lucian can spend hours reading alone while also enjoying other’s company is because Rin also added Claire as well. Claire, as mentioned in her first appearance, is a widow and is happy with solace and loneliness.
Each essence is carefully chosen by Rin to insure that her son is as close to perfect as possible.
